The Coach
I wasn't naturally gifted. I wasn't athletic. I wasn't special. I was willing to work. And that's why I coach the way I do.
The Beginning
I met boxing through obsession. The first time I saw Mike Tyson fight, I didn't just see violence. I saw power. Control. Presence. I wanted that.
My first day in the gym wasn't heroic.
And over time — that changed everything.
The gym became the one place where effort had a direct return. Where showing up mattered more than natural ability. Where the person willing to grind would always outlast the person who relied on talent.
That lesson never left me. It became the foundation of how I coach.
The Coach
Boxing Coach · Strength & Conditioning Specialist · Auckland, NZ
Jake has been coaching boxing and fitness for over 13 years — working with everyone from complete beginners stepping into a gym for the first time, to competitive athletes preparing for fight night. His track record speaks through the people he's trained, not just the time he's put in.
What separates Jake's coaching isn't intensity — it's understanding. He doesn't just run athletes through sessions. He teaches them to understand their own movement, so they leave every session with something permanent: knowledge they can take anywhere.
Outside the gym, Jake competes in grappling and applies the same framework to every discipline he trains in — standard over speed, understanding over volume, fundamentals over flash.
The Journey
The version of Jake that coaches today wasn't handed anything. It was built — rep by rep, round by round, session after session when nobody was watching.
The Motivation
The thing I love most isn't fighting. It's transformation.
I love seeing someone walk into the gym unsure of themselves — uncomfortable, hesitant, convinced they're not athletic enough or not fit enough or not whatever enough. And then watching their confidence grow week after week as they realise what they're actually capable of.
That moment when they realise:
"I can actually do this."
That's everything.
I know what it feels like to walk into a room and feel like the weakest person there. I know what it feels like to lack confidence in your own body. So now, I build it in others.
That's not a marketing line. It's the reason I've been doing this for over a decade, and why I'll keep doing it.
The Approach
Four principles behind every session Jake runs. This is what separates deliberate development from just going through the motions.
I don't train you to be dependent on me. I train you to become powerful and capable — on your own.
Most training fails not because people don't work hard enough. It fails because it lacks structure. High-intensity chaos, generic plans, coaches who count reps and call it coaching.
Jake's programs are built around a different model. Foundations are drilled until they're automatic. Each session has a clear purpose. And the goal isn't just fitness — it's producing someone who can train correctly, independently, for the rest of their life.
My goal is to build someone who:
"Boxing isn't just throwing punches. It's becoming someone stronger than you were yesterday."
Structure changes everything. If you're willing to work — Jake will give you the structure.
